BOLT Coaching Process

BOLT™ is an acronym that describes a life & performance coaching process and model that consists out of the following elements: Awareness, Ownership, Effectiveness and Review. “BOLT” thus stands for:

Become aware, assume Ownership, Learn to be effective and Take stock regularly.

This process was designed as a conversation model that meets the central aims of life coaching in general (awareness, responsibility and effectiveness).

Various models could thus be employed as part of this specific coaching process. BOLT™ (or any other acronym containing the 4 step process in paragraph one) thus brings together different coaching tools, techniques and models into one easy-to-use process. This process could be described as follows:

 BOLT_4steps

Step 1: Awareness

Aim: Helping clients to become aware of their current situation, what they are not satisfied with and what they would subsequently like to change.

Process: Various tools for increasing awareness, like the Wheel of Life or the Gears of Life™ can be used during this step.

Step 2: Ownership

Aim: Helping clients to take full responsibility for their lives.

Process: Various questioning techniques could be employed during this step in order to help clients commit to taking ownership for their dreams, goals and actions. Including the Gears of Life™.

Step 3: Effectiveness

Aim: Helping clients to learn tools and techniques for becoming more effective in different areas of their lives.

Process: Different coaching models, like the GROW or ICANDO model can be used in this step. A sequence of questions (what, why, how and when) could also help clients to be more effective by taking action toward their goals. The best example is the Gears of Life™ as used on HabitTool.com.

Other NLP or coaching techniques that could help clients to move toward the realisation of their goals can also be used during this stage of the coaching system. The focus is very much on ACTIONS and HABITS.

Step 4: Review & Adjust

Aim: Encouraging clients to regularly review their situation, goals, performance and progress.

Process: Clients are encouraged to continue their personal development by working with a life coach, getting feedback from others or using services like HabitTool.com which provides an online recording and tracking tool for your Goals, Actions and Habits.

This step ensures the continuous development of clients by assisting them in reviewing their situation regularly and getting feedback from others.

The last step changes this Coaching Process from a circular process into a spiral process.

Thus, by reviewing their situation, clients will become aware of their specific circumstances again, decide to assume ownership and learn new tools or use old tools to become even more effective. This spiral coaching process will support clients in developing their potential and reaching their goals.
